This morning, Abel Caballero extended a warm welcome to the XIII edition of Retro Galicia. Accompanied by José Enrique Elvira, director of Eventos Motor, and Arsenio Prieto, manager of IFEVI, the event was presented to the mayor of Vigo, highlighting the most relevant aspects of this prestigious show dedicated to classic vehicles and motorcycles. The exhibition will take place this weekend, on February 17 and 18, at the IFEVI facilities.
The main focus of attention this year will undoubtedly be the emotional tribute that the organization of the event will dedicate to the figure of Luis Moya. In the main area of the venue, there will be a stand dedicated to commemorate the brilliant career of the co-driver from A Coruña, a space where part of his overalls, helmets, trophies, photographs, etc. will be exhibited. Thanks to the collaboration of the Museo do Rali (Fafe, Portugal) and the Museo de Automoción e Historia (Arteixo, A Coruña), the fans will also be able to enjoy contemplating the two vehicles that took him to the top as World Rally Champion on two occasions: the Toyota Celica GT Four (1990) and Celica Turbo 4WD (1992), as well as the Subaru Impreza 555, with which he won the runner-up positions in '94 and '95.
The tribute ceremony, which will be attended by him, is scheduled for Saturday, February 17 at 18:00 h., culminating with the presentation of a plaque in recognition of his outstanding career. In this way, Retro Galicia meets, once again, with its goal of becoming a space of recognition and support for the world of Galician motorsport.
As for content, the Volkswagen Golf, a legendary model in the automotive world, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2024, a milestone that will be highlighted in Retro Galicia. In a monographic stand, the various bodyworks that the German vehicle has had since its launch to the present day will be exhibited. From the most basic and old versions of '74, to the most radical, such as the Golf 7 GTI TCR DSG, only suitable for driving on circuits and of which there are only 125 units worldwide, will be part of this exhibition.
Another of the most spectacular spaces will be the one dedicated to commemorate outstanding anniversaries of emblematic models. Here, visitors will be able to admire everything from a Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing or a Lamborghini Countach, to an Audi Sport Quattro or a Hispano Suiza from the beginning of the last century, among others.
On the other hand and, as is tradition, Retro Galicia will be the epicenter of the Spring Rallye. This test of classic regularity will have the departure and arrival at the IFEVI facilities during the morning of Saturday, with the participation of about 60 vehicles.
The classic parking lot is one of the areas most admired by attendees. With some 10,000 m² and located inside the pavilion next to the exhibition, this space will house the vintage cars and motorcycles of the enthusiasts who come to the event, eager to show their vehicles and share with other attendees the secrets of their restoration or maintenance. The vehicles present here must have historical license plates or be at least 30 years old, and must be in a good state of preservation, originality and cleanliness. This parking is free of charge, and there will also be a discount on the entrance fee for the occupants (maximum two per vehicle). The fair will also have the usual presence of various exhibitors selling parts, spare parts, spare parts, magazines, collectibles and vintage accessories, among others.
The event will be open from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm on Saturday and from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on Sunday. Tickets, priced at 8 euros for general tickets and 6 euros for classic parking, are now available at www.eventosmotor.com.
